Orange Blossom, Neroli Essential Oil
Botanical Name: Citrus aurantium
One of the best essential oils for the nervous system, emotions and stress related disorders. It is used to treat depression, shock, headaches, neuralgia and vertigo. Neroli has also been known to treat insomnia and to be used as an aphrodisiac. On the skin it is an excellent anti-aging ingredient, regenerating new healthy skin cells, preventing and treating scar tissue, broken capillaries and stretch marks.
Neroli essential oil is extracted from the small white and fragile orange blossoms of the bitter orange tree. These blossoms are handpicked in early April to late May.
The intoxicating fragrance isrefreshing and distinctive with a spicy aroma and sweet flowery notes. The essential oil is obtained by distillation and is extremely expensive as it takes 1000 lbs. of blossoms to realize 10 lbs. of oil. It is one of the oils most widely used in perfumery, flavorings and used as a key flavoring ingredients of some cola beverage recipes.
It is said that Neroli obtained its name from the 16th century Italian princess from Nerola Italy who used it as a perfume. In addition early in the 17th century, Marie Anne de La Trémoille, later the princess des Ursins is also credited as having introduced the essence as a fashionable fragrance by using it to perfume her gloves and her bath. Another source says the name Neroli comes from the Sanskrit word, nagarana.
